For countries vulnerable to increasingly severe natural disasters, stressed water infrastructure, and competition for water-use, good water governance is vital. GWP water resource and strategy specialists support governments and partner organisations to strengthen and implement policies that prioritize and protect precious water resources. We combine expertise in policy, regulatory and institutional analysis with an understanding of water resources systems and best practice management to develop recommendations for improved water governance.
With broad stakeholder engagement we design national Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) structures, and the data flows, data management, and decision-making frameworks which facilitate their implementation. Recognising IWRM is not a one-size-fits-all solution, we develop bespoke structures which are realistic to implement in the short and medium term. For institutions with limited capacity, we can help identify and develop early partnerships for initial focus themes, such as climate resilience, and predict opportunities to scale.
