Deformation and movement surveying is the systematic measuring and monitoring of slopes and structures to gather precise data related to movement or stress and then be used for predicting further change, for maintenance and risk management purposes.
The monitoring method applied to measuring movement and strain depends on the scale and preferred measurement interval. This specialist surveying is in most cases undertaken by the GWP surveying team using prisms located on sensitive, natural, and man-made structures. Larger scale movements can be undertaken by comparison of UAV survey data over time.
Expertise and Applications
- Sensitive structures - precise monitoring of carefully placed prisms
- Geotechnical analysis of unsafe and/or inaccessible quarry faces or landslides
- Subsidence monitoring, including settlement from degradation of former mine workings
