GIS – GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS

GIS is a powerful system for capturing, managing, analysing, and presenting all types of spatial data.

Fundamentally, GIS enables a deep understanding of the geographic features present on the Earth’s surface and the events taking place on it.

At GWP we believe in a ’data-first’ approach, capturing, using, and automating data and workflows across disciplines. Not only does this lead to greater efficiency, but we are also able to extract valuable insights to deliver better outcomes for your water and earth resources projects.

We use the ESRI suite, along with open-source solutions, to analyse complex geospatial information from data sources such as satellite imagery, aerial imagery, photogrammetry, and LiDAR datasets.

Expertise and Applications

For small island state governments and their partner international development agencies, we use ArcGIS to analyse spatial information on order to model climatic conditions, identify disaster risk trends and project future outcomes. We are experts in spatial planning, overcoming the challenges of data-sparce environments.

This includes computation of digital elevation, slope, aspect, and application to soil erosion potential, landslide risks, and models to characterise topography, fluvial and coastal geomorphological environments.

This includes the computation of surface water flow direction, flow accumulation, storm runoff routing networks, stream orders, catchment boundary delineation, fluvial and pluvial flooding and coastal storm surge and tsunami inundation modelling.

In areas with limited data availability, we can use a vast array of satellite and remotely sensed data archives to monitor changes on the surface of the earth from monitoring urban sprawl to quantifying changes in agriculture.

Analysis of a wide variety of data types to assess site risks of differing natures. This approach can be utilised on a wider scale to suggest suitable sites for development based on the requirements of the project.

Get the most out of the data already available to you through intelligent data management. This allows data to be easily captured, accessed, and analysed. We integrate digital and traditional visualisation solutions to provide insights and ensure key decisions are founded on strong evidence.
