Geotechnical Engineering

Our team of geologists, geotechnical engineers, and hydrogeologists look critically at your site’s behaviour under extractive and development operations.

We research and conduct field investigations of the geological boundaries and subsurface conditions of your site. This enables us to assess and measure risks to your operations and provides opportunities for improved productivity.

Core to our geotechnical services is the modelling and design of earthworks, structures and supports necessary for the safety and success of a project, however complex.

Expertise and Applications

  • Geotechnical feasibility and design studies
  • Geotechnical assessment, including UK Regulation 33 Assessment
  • Soil and rock mechanics analyses
  • Slope stability risk assessment and analysis using limit equilibrium or numerical modelling
  • Tunnel assessment and geotechnics
  • Design of tips, stockpiles, embankments, and lagoons
  • Construction Quality Assurance (CQA, UK) supervision
  • Groundwater management (including de-watering systems where permeability is low)
  • Rock mass characterisation
  • Rockfall hazard, risk analysis and rockfall containment design
  • Former mine workings’ subsidence risk assessment
